Instructional Design:
Setting the Course and Preparing the Maps for My Demo Teaching
This section presents my preparation for demo teaching, including the lesson plan, semester program and instructional materials used to support effective lesson delivery.
The Compass of Instruction
The preparation phase, which includes my lesson plan, the semester program, and the supporting materials I used, played an important role in guiding my demo teaching. The semester program served as my guide for the topics, objectives, and learning outcomes for the whole semester, helping me stay aligned with the intended goals. My lesson plan then broke these into clear and manageable steps such as objectives, activities, and assessments. I also carefully selected learning materials, including visual aids and technology, to make the lesson more engaging and easier for my students to understand. Overall, these preparations gave me direction, confidence, and a clearer flow in delivering my lesson.
The Semester Program
The teaching plan I designed was based on the semester program provided by the school, which outlined the topics, objectives, and learning outcomes for the entire term. It became our main guide in planning the lesson and gave us a clear direction on what to teach and how the lesson fits into the overall flow of learning. From this, I developed my lesson plan by breaking down the topic into specific objectives, activities, and assessments that support student understanding. The lesson was also designed to help students build not only their knowledge of the subject matter but also their communication skills, participation, and collaboration in class.
The Lesson Plan
The school uses a simple format for the subjects that use English as medium of intstruction, and that's the format the we followed. It is very different yet very simple compared to the lesson plan format in our country. My lesson plan was carefully prepared to provide a clear flow of instruction during my demo teaching.It included the learning objectives, classroom activities, teaching methods, instructional materials, and assessment tasks that guided both the teacher and the students throughout the lesson. In planning the activities, I considered the students’ level of understanding and participation to ensure that the lesson would be engaging, organized, and meaningful. The lesson plan also helped me manage time effectively and maintain a smooth transition between activities and discussions.

The lesson integrated values of cooperation and attentiveness as learners worked in pairs or small groups. I utilized PowerPoint presentations, visual aids, and a simple Solar System model to make the discussion engaging and clear. Formative assessments such as oral recitations, quick quizzes, and reflective questioning were embedded throughout the lesson to monitor understanding. The plan promoted learner-centered instruction where students actively participated, shared ideas, and discovered rules through experience.

The Execution Phase
My demo teaching experience in Grade 6 was both meaningful and memorable because it allowed me to apply the knowledge and skills I gained throughout my practicum journey. While preparing and delivering the lesson, I felt both excited and challenged, especially in managing the class, presenting the lesson clearly, and keeping the students engaged in the activities. The guidance and support of my cooperating teacher also greatly helped me during the preparation process, especially in organizing the lesson, preparing materials, and understanding the students’ learning needs.
During the lesson, I noticed that despite some students having difficulties in speaking English, they still actively participated and tried their best to answer questions and join the activities. Their willingness to engage made the classroom environment more encouraging and interactive. Using instructional materials and classroom activities also helped me deliver the lesson more effectively and maintain the students’ interest throughout the discussion.
After the demo teaching, I received constructive feedback that helped me recognize my strengths as well as the areas I still need to improve as a future educator. I also donated my instructional material to the school because the teachers and students appreciated and liked it, making the experience even more fulfilling and meaningful for me.
