Purpose of the SEA Teacher Project
The Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) promotes this flagship student exchange program, the SEA Teacher Project, designed to provide pre-service teachers with invaluable teaching experience in multicultural classrooms across the region. The project aims to develop globally competent educators by exposing participants to diverse educational systems and pedagogical approaches. This year marks a significant milestone as participating institutions, including CNSC, prepare to select and deploy Batch 11 of the program's ambassadors, continuing a tradition of cross-cultural learning and professional growth.
Procedure of the Practicum
This SEA-Teacher Project experience has contributed greatly to my growth as a future educator and as an individual. It allowed me to develop greater flexibility in handling classroom situations and adapting to a different learning environment. I was also able to enhance my communication skills through constant interaction with students, cooperating teachers, and other members of the school community.
Through this experience, I learned to become more resourceful and creative in preparing instructional materials and delivering lessons that suit the learners’ needs. I was exposed to diverse learners and a different educational culture, which helped me broaden my understanding of teaching practices and classroom management strategies. I also gained new ideas and approaches in teaching that I can apply in my chosen field of specialization.
Moreover, this project helped me appreciate the importance of cultural diversity and respect for individual differences in the learning environment. I learned how to adjust to new situations with openness and patience while building meaningful connections with the people I worked with. It also improved my socialization skills as I interacted with individuals who have different perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds.
Outcomes of SEA Teacher Project
During my SEA-Teacher Project experience, I encountered several challenges that tested my skills, adaptability, and patience as a future educator. One of the main challenges was communication, as I interacted with students and individuals who use a different language. At times, language barriers made it difficult to fully express ideas and instructions clearly. However, through the use of gestures, facial expressions, demonstrations, and simple words, I was still able to establish understanding and connection with the learners.
Another challenge I experienced was adjusting to a new cultural environment. Being in a different country with distinct traditions, values, and classroom practices required me to be more observant, respectful, and open-minded. As Indonesia is a Muslim country, I also needed to be mindful of cultural practices that are different from my own, which helped me become more sensitive and respectful in my actions and decisions.
Despite these challenges, I was able to learn and adapt gradually. These experiences encouraged me to improve my communication skills, become more resourceful, and develop greater flexibility in handling diverse classroom situations.

Overall Impression on the Project
The SEA-Teacher Project or the Pre-Service Student Teacher Exchange in Southeast Asia is a valuable opportunity for me to enhance my teaching pedagogy as well as my communication and socialization skills. I was exposed to different learning environments and classroom situations that helped strengthen my teaching abilities. It also allowed me to broaden my perspective in teaching, where I gained new ideas, strategies, and innovations that I can apply in my future teaching career.
This practicum experience abroad did not only develop my teaching skills but also contributed to my personal growth. I learned how to interact with people who have different languages, beliefs, and cultural backgrounds. Through this experience, I was able to understand more about diversity and appreciate the value of adapting to new environments, which made my overall practicum journey more meaningful and enriching.a
Suggestions for
Future Improvements
The SEAMEO organization may continue to inspire and support future educators in becoming globally competitive through the SEA-Teacher Project. It would also be beneficial if the duration of the practicum is extended beyond one month, as a longer period such as two to three months may provide more opportunities for pre-service teachers to fully develop and assess their teaching skills and competencies.
For the receiving schools, it is suggested that they continue providing more opportunities and learning experiences that can help students improve their English communication skills, particularly in speaking, reading, and writing. This will further support meaningful interaction between students and pre-service teachers and enhance the overall teaching and learning experience.
