This page introduces the receiving university that became my second home throughout my SEA-Teacher journey. It highlights the institution’s environment, community, and role in shaping my learning experience as a pre-service teacher. More than just a place for practicum, the university became a space where I experienced cultural exchange, built meaningful connections, discovered new perspectives in education, and created memories that will always remain part of my journey.
UNIVERSITAS HALU OLEO
Universitas Halu Oleo, commonly known as UHO, was established in 1964 and was initially affiliated with Hasanuddin University. The university officially gained autonomy in 1981 through Presidential Decree Number 37 of 1981 issued on August 14, 1981. This milestone was commemorated through the signing of the university’s inscription on August 19, 1981, by the former Director-General of Higher Education, Prof. Dr. Rer. Nat. Doddy Achdiat Tisna Amidjaja. During its early years, the university consisted of four faculties: Education, Economics, Social and Political Sciences, and Agriculture, and was located on the 7-hectare Kemaraya campus.
Today, Universitas Halu Oleo serves as one of Indonesia’s important higher education institutions, contributing to the development of quality human resources for both Southeast Sulawesi and the country as a whole. The university continues to pursue excellence through education, research, innovation, and community service, particularly in the areas of coastal, marine, and rural development.
In terms of administration, the university is led by the Rector together with four Vice Rectors. It also includes two institutional heads, 14 Deans, one Director of Graduate Studies, and several technical service units such as the Library, Language Center, Botanical Garden, Integrated Laboratory, Information Technology Center, Archives, and the Entrepreneurship and Student Career Development Unit.
